Vienna, Va. – November 28, 2007 – Intermarkets celebrates its tenth anniversary this month by spreading the celebration to local high school students, in the form of a college scholarship.
Kevin Lucido, CEO and President of Intermarkets, founded the company in 1997 with the intention of retailing and delivering software online. Over the next few years, the focus of the company shifted to the online advertising market and third party ad sales management and representation. Intermarkets began selling advertising on behalf of a variety of specialty publishers in January of 2001, and in the summer of 2002, The Drudge Report signed with the company and became Intermarkets’ largest ad inventory provider. By the company’s fifth anniversary, it was serving over 60 million ad impressions daily. This number continued to grow as more sites joined the Intermarkets’ Portfolio; in February 2004, a new record of delivering more than 50 million ads on one Web site in a single day was set, as millions of users flocked to the Drudge site to view the story about Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” during the Super Bowl halftime show. This record of impressions held through the next two years, as the company saw annual revenue increases of over 81% from 2003 to 2004 and continued to expand through staffing growth. The record was only broken on Election Day in 2006, when Intermarkets served 100 million ads in one day on The Drudge Report.
Currently, with a full-time staff of 12 employees and 19 publishers, Intermarkets has risen to become the leading independent advertising sales management firm for Web site publishers, serving over three billion ad impressions each month.
To celebrate its tenth year in business, Intermarkets is commemorating the special occasion by giving back to Virginia high school students. “We’re very excited to support Virginia students by offering a $5,000 scholarship to eligible seniors pursuing a journalism degree,” said Lucido.
The Intermarkets-Lucido Journalism Scholarship Fund has been established through the Northern Virginia Community Foundation (NVCF). NVCF works to grow philanthropy and strengthen the community by encouraging endowments, addressing community needs and providing community leadership.
